President Donald Trump confirmed the United States has launched 59 tomahawks missiles which landed in a airfield near Homs, reports CNBC.
Trump warned Russia to back away from the area and told other countries to stop the bloodshed in Syria.
His statement on Thursday confirmed the attack against the Bashar al-Assad regime.
“On Tuesday, Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad launched a horrible chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians. Using a deadly nerve agent, Assad choked out the lives of helpless mean, women and children. It was a slow and brutal death for so many. Even beautiful babies were cruelly murdered in this very barbaric attack,” Trump said during his Thursday address.
Western countries including Trump have accused the Syrian government of President Bashar al-Assad of carrying out the chemical attack on the town of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib Province, which left many people dead and many more wounded.
Most of the wounded were sent to Turkey for treatment, doctors said the chemicals in the gas attack was Sarin, a banned product of war.
