A total of 10 people have died and 37 injured at a train station in St. Petersburg, Russia on Monday afternoon after reports of two explosions rocked the station, later reports said there was only one explosion.
Russian Prosecutor-General’s Office spokesperson said the explosion will be investigated to all aspects, including a terrorist attack.
Aleksandr Kurennoi reported to the Russia-24 television news channel.
“We will do our utmost to clear up the factors that made the terrorist attack possible to rule out such cases in the future,” he said.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin also responded to the attack and called it a “gruesome event.”
Putin said Russia has always been a target of terrorism.
“We’ve just seen a really gruesome event in Chechnya in the North Caucasus. Terrorists attacked one of our national guard units,” Putin said.
“We exist in a very complicated environment. We must develop the awareness of this danger at last and pool efforts in the struggle against terrorism,” Putin told Le Pen.
“Our countries are real fighters against terrorism. We can defeat this evil only if we are together,” Le Pen said, adding that Russia was pushing ahead with the struggle against terrorism in Syria while France was participating in the operation in Chad. “This is the sole way of defeating terrorism. Regrettably, military presence has to be used.”
Putin offered offered his condolences to the families of the victims and said investigations are underway.
