YELLOWKNIFE — The Northwest Territories says it will implement a $20-a-tonne carbon tax.

The N.W.T.’s tax is to begin next July 1.

That is to rise gradually to $50 a tonne by 2022.

The government says all the tax from heating fuel will be rebated for most residents, businesses and governments.

The N.W.T. joins Yukon in following the federal government’s carbon tax guideline.

Nunavut has yet to announce how it will price carbon.
