Social media companies censoring political opinions is “very dangerous,” President Trump said in a recent interview.
Speaking to Reuters Monday, the president discussed efforts by social media giants to police free speech, especially in light of the recent censorship offensive launched against conservatives and independent media sites, such as Infowars.com.
“I won’t mention names but when they take certain people off of Twitter or Facebook and they’re making that decision, that is really a dangerous thing because that could be you tomorrow,” Trump told Reuters.
The president’s comments come as tech companies launched a coordinated takedown campaign of Infowars.com, with Apple, Spotify, Youtube and Facebook simultaneously banning Alex Jones’ content on the same day.
Over the weekend Trump addressed the social media censorship firestorm in a series of tweets, calling out CNN and MSNBC as constant fake news purveyors.
“Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices,” the president said in a Saturday tweet that surprised many on the left. “Speaking loudly and clearly for the Trump Administration, we won’t let that happen.”
