Austria closes 7 mosques and expels up to 60 Turkish-funded imams and their families as part of a crackdown on “political Islam”, Interior Minister Herbert Kickl said on Friday, sparking outrage in the Muslim world.
150 Muslims (religious leaders, clerics and imams) risked losing their right to residence.
The actions by the government are based on a 2015 law that, among other things, prevents religious communities from getting funding from abroad.
