A24’s The Green Knight Will Be Available To Stream For One Night Only

A24’s The Green Knight already hit theatres, but like many films today, it will soon be available to stream.

Dev Patel in The Green Knight

A24’s The Green Knight, like many films have been doing lately, will be available to stream for one night on August 18 through A24’s Screening Room platform. The film will not be a full streaming release like other films on platforms such as Amazon Prime or Netflix, so viewers might have to hurry quickly to purchase a $20 ticket to the limited screening.

Along with the film streaming (which is open in a 4-hour window starting at 9 pm ET), a Q&A will be featured after the film that will include the cast and crew. A24 has offered 3 ways to watch the film once a ticket has been purchased which include through the Roku app, a web browser, or the Apple TV app.

This trend of having a streaming option along with a theatrical release is nothing new. Streaming Services like Disney+ have given fans the opportunity to stream some of the biggest movies that are available to see in a theatre. Whether that includes MCU’s Black Widow, Raya and the Last Dragon, Cruella, and now Jungle Cruise, viewers can pay $30 to see the film. And with this $20 option, A24 is having for The Green Knight, it doesn’t seem like too bad of an idea, especially when taking into account the ways movie theatres are known for implementing pricier tickers and concessions.

Dev Patel as Gawain A24's The Green Knight

Judging by the continuous growth of streaming services and how they’re becoming more of the norm, (like how Warner Bros. announced back in 2020 that all of their 2021 films would be available to stream on the HBO Max platform the same day they’re released in theatres), expect there to be a bunch more films following in The Green Knight’s footsteps and offering fans a special screening.

The Green Knight is based on the 14th-century poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and stars Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) as Gaiwan, a nephew of King Arthur, who embarks on a journey that not only leads him to face the giant, the Green Knight but one that also tests his courage and proves his worthiness to his family. The film is directed by the visionary David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon, A Ghost Story) and also stars Joel Edgerton, Alicia Vikander, Sean Harris, Barry Keoghan, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Erin Kellyman. It has opened up to critical acclaim, with a current score of 88% on rotten tomatoes and an 85% on Metacritic. The film was originally slated for May 29, 2020, but was pushed back to July 31, 2021.
