Andy Serkis compara a Venom con Gollum

Director of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Andy Serkis, has compared Venom to Gollum. The Marvel antihero didn’t have much luck in his first movie role, Spider-Man 3 (2007), although he had a second chance with a successful solo film until 2018. Now counting again on Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) In the role, Serkis has been tasked with bringing to life the serial killer named Cleetus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) in a sequel that will arrive in Spanish cinemas in October and of which we recently learned of its spectacular second trailer.

But how is the spirit of such a dual character maintained in comics and comics in an audiovisual adaptation? Keep in mind that symbiotes they dialogue with the character constantly, having conversations with their guest. In the first tape it was done quite well, with voiceovers and some audiovisual tricks. Serkis explains in a video distributed on Apple TV + how he was inspired by Gollum, his character in The Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson to build Venom and Brock’s split personality.

A two-faced character who will have more time to show off

Serkis directed the film from a script written by Kelly Marcel (Cruella), which has had more input from Hardy than ever before and which will feature guides to the original comics. In addition to Hardy and Woody Harrelson, the film stars Michelle Williams (My Week with Marilyn), Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Reid Scott (Veep) y Stephen Graham (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). The filmmaker talked about how he wanted Matanza to look and move, and how he needed to differentiate himself from the main character in the film. And in this area, he also wanted to promote the concept

“I have spent a considerable part of my life playing a character with two sides of his personality and there are points in common. Digital characters must act serious. They have to be totally credible. He wanted to find a physical vocabulary for Carnage that was completely different from Venom. Everything is always based on reality and truth, and the viewer knows it. I think it is the perfect film in a sense, because it is a great celebration of what cinema can do, “concludes Serkis, who thinks that he has once again found a digital character with which to take technology to a new level.

I have spent a considerable part of my life playing a character with two sides of his personality and there are commonalities there.

In addition to playing Gollum in the movies of The Lord of the Rings, Serkis tambin interpret a Csar in the most recent trilogy Planet of the Apes, a role that helped him make a name for himself in the industry following his success with the character in Tolkien’s play. Serkis has a great knowledge about the performance of creatures, he knows how internal dialogues work or the physical movement of beings that are not on set in full, which makes him an interesting candidate for working with actors in a movie like Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Has great experience when it comes to bring multiple dimensions to a paper behind special effects, so your vision may be more than ideal.

Venom 2 It will be released in theaters next October 8.
