This is the transposition of the homonymous novel published in 2015 by Camille DeAngelis, whose script was written by a regular collaborator of David Kajganich (the remake of Suspiria).
Chalamet will be Lee, a homeless man who falls in love with Maren (Taylor Russell), a true survivor, and together they set out to explore the deep America in the time of Ronald Reagan.
Guadagnino has other frequent collaborators such as production designer Elliott Hostetter (he accompanied him on the HBO series We Are Who We Are), cinematographer Arseni Khachaturan and costume designer Giulia Piersanti.
In dialogue with Deadline, Guadagnino reported that at this time the conditions for the sequel to Call me by your name are not met (Chalamet is full of commitments and Armie Hammer has been “canceled” after several complaints), but that he does have his sights on resuming the remake later. from Scarface.
Maren Yearly is a young woman who wants the same things as all of us. You want to be someone that people look up to and respect. She wants to be loved. But her secret and shameful needs have forced her into exile. She hates herself for the wrong she does, for what she has done to her family, and for her sense of identity; by how her place in the world is and how people see her, how they judge her. She did not choose to be like this. Because Maren Yearly doesn’t just break hearts, she devours them. Ever since her mother found Penny Wilson’s eardrum in her mouth when Maren was just two years old, she knew that life would never be normal for either of them. Love can come in many shapes and sizes, though for Maren it always ends the same: she hides the evidence and her mother packs the car. But when her mother leaves her the day after her 16th birthday, Maren goes looking for the father she has never met and finds much more than she bargained for along the way. Facing a world of diners, potential enemies, and the prospect of love, Maren realizes that she’s not just looking for her father, she’s looking for herself.
