Keanu Reeves explains the reason for his return in ‘The Matrix’

Replaying Neo in the franchise is quite a challenge for the actor.

Although the fourth film of ‘Matrix’ still does not have an official title, it is a fact that at the end of this year we will have back the legendary central characters of this blockbuster Hollywood saga who were unveiled in ‘The Matrix’, first film in the franchise, released in 1999.

Keanu Reeves will once again bring the iconic “total black” outfit out of the closet to play Neo, while Carrie-Anne Moss will once again seduce the big screen with her role as Trinity. Let us remember that with these characters, the careers of both actors emerged in the film industry and to date, they are among their most acclaimed performances.

On the other hand, Warner Bros. announced Lana Wachowski as screenwriter, producer and director of the film in 2019, repeating the formula as in the first three ‘Matrix’ films, a challenge for the American, since this time she has had to work alone (in the first three she worked with her sister) and take the project to a more mature level.

The project put at the foot of the canyon by Wachowski alone has been the main reason that has led Keanu Reeves to continue within the franchise. Captivated by the script, the actor mentioned in an interview that although it was “strange” at first to re-introduce his character after 18 years, the script is “the only reason” to continue bringing Neo to life on the big screen. .

“Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful script and a wonderful story resonated with me. That’s the only reason to do it [la película]. Working with her again is just amazing. It was really special, ”said Reeves, 56.

But his words were not limited only to flatter the director, The actor also gave us a preview of what we can find in the plot of the fourth ‘Matrix’ movie.

“History has some significant things to say and from which we can nourish ourselves,” he said.

With a tentative release date of December 22, 2021 in North America, ‘The Matrix’ (as it has been named so far) will hit theaters, hoping to raise a box office similar to that of its predecessors. By Diego Nabejas. Pictures: Clasos
