A kind of fan remake of GoldenEye 007 was being developed using the Far Cry 5 level creator. The progress of this project was going to port, however, it will no longer see the light after an order from MGM.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer owns a portion of the James Bond rights, and it seems they didn’t like watching a 007-based fan game.
Graslu00, the user responsible for this remake of GoldenEye007, said in a comment that he received an email from Ubisoft, who in turn were notified by MGM requesting that the content be removed.
The remake of GoldenEye 007 had been in development for approximately 3 years, and it seems that given the coverage of different international media, MGM only found out about this game.
What will happen to the project?
Graslu00 said he was very sad with this news. However, he revealed that he has saved the levels of the game on his PS4, in the cloud and also on a hard drive.
He also pointed out on Twitter that he is looking for a way to be able to upload the levels to PC and can be played from there.
James Bond has long disappeared from the world of video games. The last thing that came out was “007 Legends” on PS3 and Xbox 360. A game that got terrible reviews for feeling more like a Call of Duty than anything else.
An upcoming video game based on James Bond is in development and is being done by none other than IO Interactive, creators of the Hitman saga. As for the details of the game, they have only said that it will be an original story and will not adapt any of the character’s films.
In October, the last secret agent movie called “No Time to Die” will arrive that will mark Daniel Craig’s goodbye as 007. Originally, this film was due to be released last year but was delayed by covid-19.
