Usual Suspects (1995). Review – Martin Cid Magazine

The Usual Suspects (1995)

SSuspicious Habituales delivers what it promises in its hectic start (and it doesn’t usually happen): a frenetic pace, intrigue, film noir dialogues, good performances (some very good) and, above all, a fantastic script that, look where , he won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay that year. Another one won, guess who: Kevin Spacey has it in his house (or so we think).

Argument

Five suspects are put on a reconnaissance wheel together. They meet and in the same cell they plan a robbery. Things get complicated when a lawyer who works for Kaiser Zoser, a legendary criminal with shady origins, makes an appearance.

The movie

It’s amazing from the beginning and we envy those who haven’t seen it because they’re going to have a blast with a script that leaves you in suspense from beginning to end. Yes, it is one of those movies of people who know how to write and who define the characters and put them into a plot, make them evolve and play with the viewer who sits down, relaxes and sees how the script gradually wins. .

Technically it is a fantastic film, from a photograph that constantly plays with the balance between light and shadow to a casting in which each actor fits perfectly.

Well, I think that from what has been said so far it shows that I liked it and one thing to comment (one of those that I should not): I just saw it and it has not aged at all. It uses the classic tone and its anti-heroes remind us a lot of those of the black film of the 40s, the golden age of the Warners and company who said that ‘I don’t want her good, I want her for tomorrow’.

And things were going well for them.

Bryan Sincer got it too.

Very good.

Our opinion

If you like thrillers, you are going to love it. Intriguing, mysterious and with a Kevin Spacey who likes himself in his role.

One of the best thrillers in the history of cinema.

There it is.
