the most anticipated premieres after being postponed by the pandemic

With the reopening of cinemas and the possibility of filming with protocols, this 2021 will bring all the premieres that should have been postponed by COVID 19. Not only were film festivals and theaters enabled, new seasons of the most anticipated series will also arrive of the platforms streaming after resuming their productions.

Festivals and something else

This Tuesday, July 6, one of the most acclaimed festivals for the film industry will begin: the Cannes Festival. In this edition, the chairman of the jury will be Spike Lee and some categories have the most anticipated premieres by the audience.

One of them is Annette, directed by Leos Carax, who in 2012 created the successful Holly Motors. In this case, Carax made its way onto the Cannes competition list with a musical, starring Marion Cotillard (Life in pink) y Adam Driver (Story of a marriage). The film is about the life of a stand-up comedian (Driver) and his wife, a renowned opera singer (Cotillard). The famous couple is in conflict with the birth of their first daughter, which has a special gift. Annette has the presence of both brothers of the band Sparks, Ron Mael and Russel Mael, who make up the soundtrack.

This one has its usual protagonists, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand and, in this case, it adds names like Timothée Chalamet, Elisabeth Moss and Benicio del Toro. (among many others). It will tell the story of a group of journalists, set in 20th century Paris. In production since 2018, the project was already on the list of premieres of the same festival in 2020, but it had to be delayed due to the pandemic. As for its arrival in theaters in Argentina, the estimated date is this October.

Sean Baker is a director who stomped on films like Florida Project, premiered at Cannes (2017) and Tangerine, shot entirely with an iPhone 5s. Both films address, from innovative perspectives, the issue of prostitution. Baker returns, with force, this 2021 with his next premiere at the festival: Red Rocket. The script is about a former porn star who returns to the town where she was born, in Texas.

Within the list of pending releases there is also Duneby Denis Villeneuve. The project ended its filming last year, but Hollywood delayed its arrival in theaters amid restrictions due to the pandemic.. Like the previous creations of Villeneuve (The Arrival, Prisoners), this is expected to be a great science fiction production, with a cast of gold: Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, etc. Dune has no confirmed date for Argentine cinemas, but it is estimated that it will be at the end of September of this year.

pandemic premieres

Atypical has already announced the premiere of its fourth season.

Series that return and that never left

Other projects that were postponed by COVID 19 were the series. The possibility of filming with protocol was enabled in the middle of last year, which generated that the filming of new seasons had to be canceled for a long period of time. But there is good news for fans: several projects will bring their new episodes this year.

Within Netflix’s stakes are many creations focused on youth, sexual discovery and openness to recurring themes in the new generations. These are precisely the themes of Atypical Y Sex Education. Atypical focuses on the life of a teenager, Sam, diagnosed with autism, and the new friends he finds on his way, when he decides to start experimenting with love relationships. Its first three seasons were very successful on the platform and the fourth will arrive on Netflix on July 9.

Sex Education managed to find a new perspective to address sexual discovery in adolescence. Its protagonist, Otis, is an understanding young man who decides to advise his companions on sexual problems. The other characters in the series also won the affection of the public, such as the protagonist’s best friend, Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and Mae (Emma Mackey), the girl with whom Otis falls in love. They, and also new personalities, will arrive with the next installment of Sex Education which opens on September 17.

In fact, Netflix confirmed that its third season was the most watched on the platform. Its fourth installment is the most anticipated since 2019 and, despite not having a confirmed release date, Filming has already resumed with its usual cast and is expected to arrive in early 2022.
