Eight Swiss are on Bloomberg’s 500 richest billionaires list. Ernesto Bertarelli and his family, who rank 92nd, are the most affluent in Switzerland, with a fortune estimated at 20.4 billion dollars (18.4 billion francs).
The second, Gianluigi Aponte, comes much further in Bloomberg’s ranking, at 241st place. His fortune is valued at $ 10 billion. This Italian who lives in Geneva owns the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), whose head office is also located in the city of Calvin.
The founder of the medical technology group Hansjörg Wyss comes in 280th place with an estimated capital of 9.2 billion dollars. Then come in 334th place the national councilor UDC Magdalena Martullo-Blocher, the patron saint of Ems-Chemie, with a fortune of 8 billion, and in 342nd place her sister Rahel Blocher, with a fortune of 7.8 billion.
Finally, the shareholder families of the pharmaceutical group Roche complete the ranking on the Swiss side. André Hoffmann is ranked 430th, with a fortune of $ 6.4 billion, while Vera Michalski-Hoffmann and Maja Hoffmann follow in 453rd and 454th positions, with a fortune of $ 6.1 billion each.
With one exception, the first places in the Bloomberg ranking are occupied by American entrepreneurs. Topping the list is Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, whose fortune stands at $ 190 billion.
