This cascade of supposed links between the Wuhan lab and pharmaceutical giants Gates or Soros is incorrect

Posts shared several thousand times on Facebook since mid-November claim to highlight the connections between the P4 laboratory in Wuhan, where the Covid is said to have emerged, the Pfizer laboratory, the industrialist GlaxoSmithKline, billionaires Bill Gates and George Soros and insurance companies. But they contain several false information: the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which nothing can link to the origin of the epidemic, has nothing to do with GSK, a company that does not own the American Pfizer.

The Wuhan Chinese Biological Lab is actually owned by Glaxo, who coincidentally owns Pfizer (Covid-19 vaccine), which coincidentally is tied to the finances of Black Rock (Larry Flynt), who coincidentally manages the finances of the Open Foundation. Society (Soros) “… This ironic post, shared nearly 1,000 times since November 24 on Facebook, links the Wuhan laboratory to pharmaceutical companies, billionaires George Soros and Bill Gates and aims to prove that the coronavirus pandemic was planned.

This publication is accompanied by a photo of the visit of former French Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve to the Wuhan laboratory on February 23, 2017. The Wuhan laboratory was designed with the help of French companies as part of an agreement Franco-Chinese, as Bernard Cazeneuve explained in his speech on the occasion of this visit.

This publication is also circulating in Dutch, German, Slovak or Spanish. The first Facebook post found by AFP dates from November 12 and was shared in Italian. She attributes this text to a certain “Giuseppe Renda”.

A Google search with that name leads to the Linkedin profile of a Pfizer employee in Italy. AFP sought to contact Giuseppe Renda but had not received a response as of the publication date of this article.

No link between Wuhan lab and Glaxo

This publication discusses “the biological laboratory” de Wuhan which is said to be owned by pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).

Many theories claim that Sars-Cov-2 was created in the P4 laboratory in Wuhan and escaped. Donald Trump himself said in April that‘he “had proof” that the pandemic originated from the said institute, but never presented this proof. However, nothing proves this allegation, as AFP has already explained.

AFP has found no link between the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), where this laboratory is located, and the company GlaxoSmithKline. According to this article from the scientific journal Nature of 2017, which presents the activities of the P4 laboratory of the WIV, its creation was approved in 2003 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and built with the help of France within the framework of ” a cooperation agreement on the prevention and control of new infectious diseases.

This CAS press release also states that the WIV P4 was inaugurated in 2015 by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It was funded by the National Commission for Reform and Development (NDRC) and “designed by France and China”. The press release does not mention the GSK company.

The WIV website does not contain any mention of any involvement of a foreign company. It depends on the CAS, which depends on the Chinese government. The GSK site in China also does not mention any participation in the WIV. He indicates that GSK is established in China in the cities of Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin.

AFP contacted the Chinese Academy of Sciences, but had not received a response at the time of this article’s publication.

Glaxo does not own Pfizer

“Glaxo, which coincidentally owns Pfizer (Covid-19 vaccine)”, continues the publication. The American pharmaceutical group Pfizer has developed the vaccine against Covid-19 currently in use in the United Kingdom.

According to CNN Business, Pfizer is majority controlled by The Vanguard Group, which owns a 7.67% stake in the US lab. The American multinational BlackRock, mentioned in this publication, is also one of its shareholders.

But Glaxo is not on Pfizer’s shareholder list.

Contacted by AFP, a spokesperson for Pfizer confirmed that the claim that GSK owns the pharmaceutical company is not “not right”. “Pfizer is NOT owned by Glaxo! Pfizer is a listed company on the New York Stock Exchange”spokesperson Dervila Keane told AFP in an email received on December 7, 2020.

In December 2018, GSK and Pfizer announced the merger of their non-prescription drug activities into a joint venture, thus creating in 2019 GSK Consumer Healthcare, an alliance for the commercialization of products such as the Voltaren, the Panadol and the Advil. This was not, however, a takeover of one company by another. In the pharmaceutical sector, the two companies remain competitors.

Confusions in the links between BlackRock, AXA, Winterthur and Allianz

Facebook posts then claim that the Pfizer lab “relates to the finances of BlackRock”, which “coincidentally manages the finances” of the network of foundations Open Society Foundations created by the American George Soros, who “is coincidentally close“from the French insurance company AXA and the Swiss company Winterthur “who built this laboratory”.

The businessman and philanthropist George Soros, he is regularly the subject of false information, verified by AFP. Among other things, he was falsely presented as having been arrested in Switzerland and later in Philadelphia for electoral interference after the US presidential election and he allegedly said he wanted “Bring down the United States by funding black hate groups.”

Some publications also mention “Larry Flynt”, designating him as the owner of asset manager BlackRock. They confuse Larry Flynt, founder and boss of the American pornographic magazine Hustler, and Larry Fink, former trader and CEO of BlackRock.

BlackRock is the world’s leading asset manager, and as such has interests in thousands of companies, including Pfizer. It also has thousands of investors, including magnate George Soros, among its many portfolios.

The Open Society Foundations site does not, however, make any mention of the French insurance company Axa, with the exception of a document in which are mentioned, by way of example, lawsuits brought by Axa against individuals guilty of false statements of assurance.

As for Winterthur, the Swiss insurance company was bought by Axa in 2006. AFP has found no trace of the construction of a laboratory in Wuhan by the group.

According to these publications, the Wuhan P4 laboratory would also have been “accidentally bought“by the insurer Allianz. Which does not make sense since, above, the same publications claim that the laboratory belongs to Glaxo. Allianz indicates on its site that it has offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou , but not in Wuhan, nor does the company mention the presence of a laboratory in China.

Bill Gates is not a large shareholder of Pfizer

The post also links BlackRock to Bill Gates, who is not named but referred to as “a shareholder of Pfizer”, “a major shareholder of Microsoft and Gates”, “currently the first sponsor of the WHO”. Like George Soros, Bill Gates has been the target of a lot of false information since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Pfizer laboratory has indeed received money from the Strategic Investment Fund of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The foundation has invested in the pharmaceutical company to expand access to Sayana, an injectable contraceptive, to developing countries, she explains on her site. She also announced in September 2020 that she would collaborate with several of the companies working on the development of a Covid-19 vaccine. However, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is not among the major shareholders of Pfizer.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is one of the largest contributors to WHO, contributing 11.65% of the budget of the World Health Organization. It is just behind the German government, which provides 12.18% of the budget.

In conclusion, there is no evidence that Wuhan WIV is owned by GlaxoSmithKline company, nor is it true that the company owns Pfizer. There is also no trace of the involvement of the insurance companies Winterthur and AXA in the WIV. In contrast, fund manager BlackRock, which owns a portion of Pfizer’s stock, has George Soros as an investor, along with many other global fortunes. In addition, Bill and Melinda Gates have invested in Pfizer for the development of specific projects but are not significant shareholders.
