The metaverse, can you believe it? Maybe not, but the CEO of Nvidia, like thousands of people who have read the book Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, believes in it. He believes in it so strongly that he has turned a ‘new traveling campus’ into a testing ground of what the metaverse will look like when in contact with the physical world.
Metaverse in the physical world
The metaverse, What is it exactly ? They are interconnected virtual worlds whose inhabitants are avatars who have their own currencies and lifestyles. Even though all the people who have read Snow Crash from Neal Stephenson do not necessarily agree with the theory of the existence of these worlds, there are some who continue to believe in it. Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia is one of them.
Jensen Huang believes that it is now possible to establish a connection between the physical world and the metaverse. For this, it would be enough to be based on VR / AR technology and to endow it with an internal market that will be supplied with cryptocurrencies.
During the Computex virtual conference, the CEO stated that he “Believes that we are at dawn” of metaverse. Speaking in glowing terms about the potential of the technology he plans to use to make his dream come true, he told a reporter during a question-and-answer session that the metaverse can be used to “Simulate the future”.
Wear a VR headset, be at home and go to work
Jensen Huang clarified that Nvidia already has new buildings in VR version with offices and everything that can be found in the physical world. To achieve this feat, his company has equipped itself with supercomputers to simulate the architecture of digital campus create.
The long-term objective of the project proposed Nvidia is to allow its employees to get to work every day using VR headsets, while being at home. From home they could control robots to move around the physical office space. In short, it would be a hybrid creation between VR and the real world.
“This building exists entirely in VR. We designed it completely digitally to be a twin of our physical buildings. We can simulate everything and train our robots there. We will be able to simulate all our new technologies there before we deploy anything here in the physical world. We will be able to get in and out of it using VR and AR ”.
The enthusiasm of Jensen Huang puts him at the head of the pack of business leaders who firmly believe in the usefulness of NFTs to build bridges between the physical world and the metaverse. However, he is not the only one. Tim Sweeney, the creator of Fortnite, also specified that according to him, the NFTs are the most « plausible » to go to a functional metaverse.
Combine virtual reality with the physical world to deploy technologies there before bringing them back to our world. In itself, this project of the firm Nvidia is very ambitious and, at first glance, it seems impractical. But you should never doubt the will of a CEO who firmly believes in the metaverse. After all, someone had to dream of Rome before it became a power, right?
