Chelsea braced to break transfer record to sign Erling Haaland with Tammy Abraham possibly heading to Borussia Dortmund as Roman Abramovich praised for ‘not sitting on the fence’

Chelsea are believed to have opened talks with Borussia Dortmund over a deal to sign Erling Haaland that would shatter several transfer records.

Haaland is one of the most coveted young talents in world football, terrorizing defenses across Europe when he was only 20 years old.

Haaland has 57 goals in 59 games since joining Dortmund

He has scored 41 goals in 41 games in all competitions for Dortmund this season and is already one of the best strikers in the world.

The Norwegian superstar has a release clause in his £ 68million contract, but that doesn’t become active until 2022.

Dortmund reiterated their desire to keep him for at least another season, issuing several statements saying words to that effect.

Haaland has made 12 appearances for Norway, scoring seven goals

But that didn’t stop the rumor mill, especially aided by the actions of his father, Alf-Inge, and agent Mino Raiola.

Their globetrotter then saw chatting with Real Madrid, Barcelona and four Premier League clubs – believed to be Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and Man United.

Dortmund didn’t sign Haaland until January 2020 from Red Bull Salzburg, for just £ 17million, but their resolve is set to be tested this summer.

Several reports claim Chelsea have opened talks with the Bundesliga club over a deal – reportedly in the order of £ 170million.

The Blues could offer players as part of the deal, with Tammy Abraham’s name mentioned in initial talks.

The Blues are said to be confident they can strike a deal, but his £ 300,000-a-week wage demands could pose a problem.

Haaland himself wasn’t revealing much when asked about his future recently.

“Well, I have a contract for a few years, so I’m respectful of my contract,” he told Viaplay.

“I’m a simple guy. When I like something, I just want to have more of it – when I score a goal, I always chase the next goal. “

Former Charlton, Tottenham and Aston Villa forward Darren Bent believes the Blues haven’t had a proper No.9 since Diego Costa and believes Haaland’s signing would turn the Premier League upside down next season.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “Haaland has star quality. Tammy [Abraham] did well for a little while, [Olivier] Giroud is at the end of his career, but I know he is important.

“The last time Chelsea had a real number 9… you had [Diego] Costa, and of course [Didier] Drogba before that.

“If they’re going to look for Haaland, someone who knows where the net is, we haven’t seen him in the Premier League, but we know the quality is there.

“If they have someone who can score 20-25 goals, the league the next few seasons will be so interesting.

“That’s what you have to admire in Roman Abramovich and Chelsea, he doesn’t stay on the fence.

“Do you want £ 170million?” Bang, there you go!
