Nawaat – WhatsApp, an Israeli app as claimed by Borhen Bsaies?

Borhen Bsaies acts as a permanent columnist on Ifm radio, in the program “RafMag”, broadcast daily from 7 to 9 am. In this program, he intends to comment on national and international news. During the program broadcast Thursday, Bsaies raised the issue of normalization with Israel, and the appeal launched by the Tunisian General Union of Labor (UGTT) to the Tunisian authorities to denounce “shame dealSigned separately between the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain with the Zionist entity.

Commenting on the wave of protest that arose in particular on social networks, Bsaies noted that the WhatsApp application is Israeli. He even claimed that the code to access it is controlled by Israeli research labs.

Except that WhatsApp is an application created in 2009 by two computer engineers, one American, Brian Acton, and Jan Koum, of Ukrainian origin. In 2014, the Facebook company owned by American Mark Zuckerberg bought WhatsApp for around $ 19 billion. In March 2020, the application counted 2 billion users worldwide. The software allows secure communication, the exchange of information, audiovisual documents and web links individually or collectively.

It is therefore incorrect to assign an Israeli identity to WhatsApp. By arguing that all digital technologies and social networks come from the Zionist entity, Bsaies intends to mock the efforts of anti-normalization movements. Note that Bsaies began his remarks by evoking his relations with the Emirati ambassador, specifying that he had a coffee with him the day before.
