According to several reports on Saturday, the blaze was the result of an attack from an unknown source. Israeli officials believe Iran is behind attack, news site says Ynet.
The ship, identified as the Liberian-flagged CSAV Tyndall, departed from the port of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and was headed for the port of Jebel Ali in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, according to the pro-Hezbollah al-Mayadeen Lebanese TV channel. .
An earlier version of this report, citing Hebrew-language media, said the ship was owned by Zodiac Maritime, a London-based company owned by Israeli tycoon Eyal Ofer. The vessel was indeed previously owned by the company, but was sold several months ago.
“Following information in the media, we can confirm that the CSAV Tyndall vessel is neither owned nor operated by Zodiac Maritime, which is a UK ship management company”, the company said in a statement on Saturday.
No injuries were reported aboard the vessel, which sustained minor damage and continued its voyage after the incident.
