A smart lamp that detects fall in the elderly – Multimedia

The Antwerp start-up Nobi has developed a lamp that helps single elderly people in the event of a fall. With artificial intelligence, the device detects when the person falls, contacts family or emergency services and can open the door for them.

With the device, the Antwerp company wants to offer a solution to a worldwide problem. According to figures from the World Health Organization, one in three people over the age of 65 falls at least once a year, with 66 percent also seriously injuring themselves.

“Nobi’s mission is to allow the elderly to live independently and happily at home for as long as possible. A wish of many people over 65”, says co-founder Roeland Pelgrims. Nobi watches over our elderly and even ensures communication between the resident and family or caregivers. This really gives peace of mind.”

The device focuses on fall prevention through smart lighting. If a resident does fall, the lamp notices, asks if everything is okay and calls relatives in case of an emergency. If necessary, the emergency services will be contacted, which Nobi can also let in.

In addition, the lamp can also monitor air quality, detect fire or burglary and even share photos or make phone calls.
