Samsung launches smart display – News

Samsung comes with a Smart monitor. A PC screen that can be easily connected to your smartphone, but also has features that resemble a smart TV.

With the Smart Monitor, Samsung aims at work, study and entertainment. In addition to ‘normal’ use as a monitor, the device is equipped with a Smart Hub, comparable to Samsung’s smart TV platform. From there it is possible to cast your Android or iPhone to the screen via Tap View, App Casting or AirPlay 2.

For more professional use, the screen also supports Samsung Dex, where you can start a desktop environment from certain Samsung phones and bring it to a larger screen. Office 365 is also built-in by default, although you do need a subscription for this.

The device comes in two variants: M7 and M5. They both have WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, a remote control, speaker, USB connections and a flat screen, so not curved like many of Samsung’s screens. The refresh rate is 60 Hz with a response time of 8 ms. The screen runs on Tizen 5.5 and also features voice control.

The M7 variant has a screen diagonal of 32 inches and a 4K resolution (3840X2160 pixels), with HDR10. In addition to two regular USB connections, there is also a USB-C port with a 65W charging capacity.

The M5 is available with a 27-inch or 32-inch screen in a Full HD resolution (1,920X1,080). Here we find two USB ports (no USB-C).

The M7 with 4K screen will be on sale from the end of January 2021 for 399 euros. For the M5 (Full HD) you pay 249 euros (27 inches) or 289 euros (32 inches), these two are normally for sale from the last week of this year.
