‘Samsung to unveil phone with a rollable screen in 2021’

Tech giant Samsung would like to present a smartphone with a rollable screen next year. That reports website Tweakers based on the Korean newspaper Korea Herald. Samsung itself has not confirmed the rumor.

At the moment, Samsung already has a few smartphones with a folding screen, the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Fold. With those devices, the ‘seam’ of the screen is flexible, but the rest of the display cannot be bent. With a roll-up screen, the display can be made longer or wider by ‘pulling’ it out of the device, whereby the screen ratio adjusts automatically.

Other manufacturers are also working on these types of devices, such as the Korean LG and the Chinese TCL (see the device in the image and in the video below). LG would like to present its version of the ‘rollable smartphone’ at the end of June 2021 during the telecom fair Mobile World Congress. TCL gave a preview last month, with the unveiling of a prototype during the IFA technology fair in Berlin.
