As we are currently (almost) all sitting at home and twiddling our thumbs, boredom is our constant companion. We should definitely do something about this, because the time without many obligations can also be used sensibly. Of course, that doesn’t have to mean that we’re tidying up and cleaning all of our apartments (even if that would probably not be a bad idea) – how about a new hobby instead? Here are five suggestions:

Photography – you have a lot of time to practice right now

“Photography for Beginners” by Kyra and Christian Sänger

Your new hobby? Do you finally want to learn to take photos properly and not just have to rely on your smartphone camera? This book explains the basics and settings of your digital camera and provides you with tips on how to make your pictures even better. You will learn how to take photos properly with flash, how to make portrait photos look good, how to take beautiful animal, nature or vacation photos and on top of that you will be taught the basics of image processing. You will also find over 850 sample photos in the guide, which will help you to get the right picture.

Drawing – so that you can express your ideas and thoughts creatively

“The Art of Drawing” and the matching exercise book

Your new hobby? To draw. So you can express your feelings and kill time without any problems. This book teaches you to sketch over 1,000 illustrations in an easily understandable way (shapes, still lifes, plants, landscapes, animals, portraits and people). There is an exercise section in the textbook itself, but if you want to practice more, you should also take a look at the appropriate exercise book. There you can train specifically and will definitely quickly become a drawing professional.

“Cooking – it’s that easy: The basic cookbook in 1,000 pictures” by Hans Gerlach

Your new hobby? Eating is probably our hobby, but many of them are not very good at cooking themselves (we are no exception). This cookbook is for you and us. It contains 70 important basic recipes, which (luckily) are explained very clearly with the help of pictures. You can see which ingredients are used, how they are processed and prepared and what the dish should look like in the end. There are also small reading islands that offer you information on products, preparation steps or entire dishes.
