News hardware Xiaomi’s new walkie-talkie has a range of 5,000 kilometers. But it’s not (just) a walkie-talkie
Mainly known for its smartphones, its connected watches or its electric scooters, Xiaomi is an institution in its country of origin, China, where it offers hundreds of different products including a range of walkie-talkies among which we find a new model with a range of… 5000 kilometres!
Xiaomi, champion of innovation
With Xiaomi, we know that we should expect all kinds of eccentricity. If its know-how in smartphones, PC screens, TVs, connected watches, electric scooters or even wireless headphones is well established, it is worth remembering that in China Xiaomi is absolutely everywhere.
Among the most surprising products that we find at Xiaomi, we think in particular of nail clippers, sports shoes or even retractable leashes with LED lighting for animals…
A real jack-of-all-trades, the brand is particularly comfortable with new technologies and telecommunications and offers walkie-talkies, for example, alongside its smartphones. Today it is the Xiaomi Walkie-Talkie 3 that is making a lot of noise since Xiaomi announces a range of… 5000 kilometers! But how does he do it?
Hybrid, the Xiaomi Walkie-Talkie 3 uses the Chinese 4G network to overcome the limits
Well, you will have understood it, in reality the Xiaomi Walkie-Talkie 3 is a hybrid device equipped with a SIM card that allows it to connect to the main Chinese 4G networks. It also has a 3000 mAH battery, protection, IP54 and an autonomy of more than 60 hours in use and up to 100 hours on standby.
Very similar to a smartphone, it has a small LCD screen, allows you to create discussion groups or quite simply to make “one-to-one” type calls like any other walkie-talkie on the market. It also has a large 40mm speaker and can even receive OTA “Over-the-air” updates. Finally, note the presence of a USB C port, a jack as well as support for headphones and Bluetooth headsets. Much more to do with the Rambo models of the 80s…
So you’re probably wondering why not use a smartphone like almost everyone else? Well already, it only costs 399 yuan (about 58 euros), making it one of the cheapest communication solutions on the market. On the other hand, it is not known if an additional cost of subscription type is necessary to use the 4G functions of the device.
For the moment, this device is reserved for China and no release window for Europe is planned at this time. But let’s trust Xiaomi to offer it to us if the demand arises.
