Teachers’ association towards the end of the mask requirement in schools

The German Teachers Association is against a quick lifting of the mask requirement in schools. Association President Heinz-Peter Meidinger told the German Press Agency in Berlin that he advised the greatest possible caution, especially during lessons. “The virus has not yet disappeared from the scene.” Mask requirement and regular tests should remain in the end of the school year. Due to the sharp drop in corona numbers, there is increasing discussion in Germany about the mask requirement, especially at schools. Meidinger said everyone was very happy about the falling incidences and the return to face-to-face teaching. However, there are still increased numbers of infections in the group of children and adolescents who have hardly been vaccinated so far. “Around 50 percent of all teachers do not yet have complete vaccination protection.”

RKI: New infections below 1,000 for the first time since September

For the first time in more than eight months, the health authorities in Germany have fewer than 1,000 new infections within a day Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported. The RKI registered 549 new cases, according to figures from this morning. Most recently, the number of new infections per day was in three digits on September 21, at 922. A week ago the value was 1,117 infections. The RKI gave the seven-day incidence nationwide today at 16.6 (previous day: 17.3, previous week: 24.3). Across Germany, ten new deaths were recorded within 24 hours (previous week: 22; total: 89,844). The RKI has counted 3,715,518 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Denmark has largely lifted the mask requirement

In Denmark, the obligation to wear a mask for almost all areas of public life will be lifted from today. The only exception to this is public transport – but only there if you are not sitting. The mask is supposed to disappear completely by September 1st.

Digital vaccination card starts

In the northern German federal states, too, the first pharmacies and doctors are now issuing QR codes for people who have been vaccinated. However, practices and pharmacies appeal that not everyone should be at the door with this concern today. The online portal mein-apothekenmanager.de should list all pharmacies that offer this service. With the digital vaccination certificate, the full corona vaccination protection can be proven via smartphone. Among other things, this is intended to facilitate travel in the EU. The yellow paper vaccination booklet still applies.

The value was lowest in the Wesermarsch district with an incidence of zero. According to the RKI, there were two more deaths nationwide within one day. The assignment is made by a random generator.

Spahn advocates the end of the mask requirement

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn has spoken out in the debate about an end to the mask requirement. The CDU politician advocates a step-by-step plan: “In the case of falling incidences, we should proceed in stages: In a first step, the mask requirement can be omitted outside,” said Spahn to the newspapers of the “Funke Mediengruppe”. “In regions with a very low incidence and a high vaccination rate, gradually also indoors.” The wearing of masks is also recommended without obligation, for example when traveling or meeting indoors. There is only more security if everyone present is vaccinated or regularly tested.

Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) yesterday rejected a lifting of the mask requirement.

New corona rules in Schleswig-Holstein come into force

As of today, larger events are again allowed in Schleswig-Holstein. The guideline of the new Corona state regulation is: Inside up to 500 participants are possible, outside up to 1,000. This applies to sporting events and competitions, attending concerts, theater and cinema as well as meetings and church services, flea markets and trade fairs. In addition, all swimming, fun and outdoor pools with hygiene concepts can be opened. At parties without fixed seats, up to 125 people are allowed inside subject to certain conditions, outside 250. In front of retail shops and in parking lots, there is no obligation to wear a corona mask – but it remains in Schleswig-Holstein’s schools.
