Less than 48 hours after the show of strength against Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic again shows an incredible performance. This time in the final of the French Open against a youngster. Its attack on the “Big Three” fails again.

TTennis star Novak Djokovic wins the French Open 2021 in Paris. The world number one beats the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 6: 7, 2: 6, 6: 3, 6: 2, 6: 4 in a dramatic final. This means that the Serb is only one Grand Slam triumph away from his long-term rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

For two sentences, however, it hadn’t looked like it at all. In the first round it was – somewhat surprisingly – Tsitsipas who kept his nerve. At 5: 4, the fifth in the world rankings left the set ball behind, but then saved himself after the break to 5: 6 with the rebreak to 6: 6 in the tie-break. Here he quickly moved to 4: 0 and 5: 2 before it was again 5: 6. The first set ball for Djokovic, which Tsitsipas fought off brilliantly with an emergency forehand. Even the “Djoker” applauded. Two points later, the (slight) outsider actually took the lead after 68 minutes.

“A hot battle and high-class level”

In the aftermath, the only 22-year-old remained the leading player. Tsitsipas immediately took the serve from his opponent, was even able to extend this lead and only half an hour later made the 2-0 lead perfect. The spectators at Roland Garros were completely over the moon.

And Djokovic? He looked visibly annoyed. Also because Tsitsipas always seemed to have the better answer. This changed at the beginning of the third round when the Serb used the fifth breakball in a ten-minute service game of the Greek. The start of the turn. From then on, it was the 34-year-old who determined the game and opponents. 6: 3 in the third set, 6: 2 in the fourth round. Boris Becker raved as an expert: “A hot battle and a high-class level.”

Marathon only 48 hours after the crazy Nadal match

Subsequently, the top tennis player was able to maintain this level. While Stefanos Tsitsipas lost his strength a bit, Novak Djokovic felt like adding another. And not even 48 hours after the incredible semi-final against Rafael Nadal.

As in sets three and four, the number one in the world pulled the tooth out of the opponent with an early break at the beginning of the round.

So the winner of a Grand Slam was – once again – provided by the “Big Three”, consisting of Djokovic, Federer and Nadal. For the Serbs it means the 19th Grand Slam triumph, the two long-term opponents each have 20 titles. It only seems a matter of time before Novak Djokovic will catch up.
