Claus Kleber will stop at the “Today Journal” at the end of 2021
He had already extended his contract once, but now it should be over: News presenter Claus Kleber will retire at the end of the year at the age of 66. He confirmed corresponding media reports on Twitter – and shows humor.
Mit Petra Gerster has just left a well-known TV face on ZDF: The 66-year-old recently retired. As the “Bild” newspaper first reported, referring to the ZDF, it will soon be followed by another high-profile presenter.
Claus Kleber, 65, will not renew his contract for the “Heute-Journal” and will retire at the end of 2021 at the age of 66. A channel change is apparently not planned.
On Twitter, Kleber confirmed the media reports with a single word: “RICHTIG”, he wrote to a screenshot of one of the reports.
A mistake had crept into it. “Kleber has been hosting the news program for 2003 years.” Kleber commented humorously in the screenshot: “felt”. In fact, the journalist has moderated the “Today Journal” since 2003, that is 18 years. He presented his first “Today Journal” on February 3, 2003.
Shortly before the tweet with the confirmation, Kleber had posted a tweet with the comment “FALSE!”. With the same screenshot – only “felt” without his joking correction. Kleber’s “wrong” therefore only referred to the incorrect time specification “since 2003 years”.
„Claus Kleber is still in action for the “Heute-Journal” until the end of the year ”,“ Bild ”had quoted a ZDF spokesman. It went on to say: “Now we are facing a politically exciting summer and a federal election – and that is one of the things that his journalistic focus is on.”
In 2007, the TV man was offered the post of “Spiegel” editor-in-chief, but he turned it down. Kleber is a well-known expert on the USA; the law graduate has headed, among other things, the ARD studio in Washington over the course of his career. Before moving to ZDF, Kleber managed the ARD studio in London.
Under his tweet confirming his departure, viewers thanked Kleber. “I will miss your mischievous humor”, commented one. The Berlin SPD politician Sawsan Chebli schrieb: “I wish you all the best! I fondly remember the role play in the context of Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s birthday. Thank you for taking part back then. It was a highlight in his birthday video. “
