They are usually outgoing and make excellent watchdogs.

The CDC reported that the measure will enter into force as of July 14.

The United States announced, earlier this week, a surprising measure: will prohibit the entry of dogs entering the country for the first time or returning to the territory after spending time abroad.

According to the news agency ‘AP’, it is a provision taken by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, for its acronym in English) to control rabies outbreaks.

This is due to the fact that vaccination against this virus has been affected by different factors, including the pandemic.

Pet ownership is believed to have increased in a pandemic as people sought company in confinement.

Although more than 100 countries around the world would be affected, Colombia stands out on the list, since the majority of pets that have been denied entry to North American territory came from our country, Russia or Ukraine.

Dr. Douglas Kratt, president of the American Veterinary Medical Association, welcomed the news: “The AVMA supports measures that ensure good rabies control and CDC’s action is a strong measure at this time to protect the health of animals and humans.”

It is worth noting that this prohibition will rule for one year and will be effective as of July 14, 2021.
