Angelique Kerber has won her first title since winning Wimbledon in 2018 – and again on grass. In Bad Homburg, the Kiel woman prevailed against the Czech Katerina Siniakova 6: 3, 6: 2 in the final.
“It couldn’t have gone better,” said Kerber. “I felt so comfortable on and off the pitch. I tried to stay relaxed.”
Kerber wins as a tournament ambassador
Two days before the start of the Grand Slam climax on the “holy lawn” of the All England Club, the Kiel woman regained her confidence. For Kerber, after the success at Wimbledon and the victory in Birmingham in 2015, it was the third title on grass and the 13th tournament victory overall.
In Bad Homburg she also acted as a tournament ambassador, her management organized the premiere of the lawn tournament in the oldest tennis club on the European mainland. “I helped build the tournament and won,” said Kerber happily.
Wimbledon: Kerber could meet Serena Williams early
