Results report 108th Tour de France
30.06.2021 | (rsn) – Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) won the first time trial of the 108th Tour de France with a superior performance. The 22-year-old Slovenian needed exactly 32 minutes for the 27.2 undulating kilometers of the 5th stage from Changé to Laval and was thus 19 seconds faster than the Swiss European Champion Stefan Küng (Groupama – FDJ).
The Dane Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo – Visma) finished third, 27 seconds behind, while his Dutch team-mate Wout Van Aert (+0: 30) came fourth. Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin – Fenix), who was the last of the 177 riders to start, finished fifth with 31 seconds and just barely defended his yellow jersey). As the best German professional, Max Walscheid from Heidelberg (Qhubeka NextHash / +0: 49) took 28th place.
“That was a really good day for me. I didn’t make a mistake and the conditions were perfect, ”said Pogacar, commenting on his fourth day’s win on a tour of France.
In the overall standings, van der Poel is now eight seconds ahead of Pogacar and 30 ahead of Van Aert. The Belgian champion pushed world champion Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck – Quick-Step), who finished the time trial 1:11 minutes behind in fourteenth, to fourth place (+0: 48). Bora-hansgrohe captain Wilco Kelderman fell from fifth to 13th place (+1: 56).
Mark Cavendish (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) remains at the top of the points classification, the Dutchman Ide Schelling (Bora – hansgrohe) also wears the mountain jersey on the 6th stage. Pogacar claimed his white jersey of the best young driver.
With Vingegaard, Van Aert and Primoz Roglic, who finished in seventh place 44 seconds behind his compatriot, Jumbo – Visma brought three drivers into the top ten and took the lead in the team standings.
