Those close to her always use the same metaphor: in politics, Valérie Pécresse likes to practice hurdling. One obstacle after another. The presidential election of 2022? No question for the president of Ile-de-France to speak on the subject before having first been re-elected at the head of her region, then having adopted most of her program in session plenary. It is now done and Valérie Pécresse can therefore officially project herself towards the 2022 poll that she has been eyeing for some time now.
It’s in Le Figaro that the former minister of higher education decided to formalize his candidacy, Thursday, July 22, in the form of an interview. Thus becoming, after Xavier Bertrand, the second official candidate of the right to run for the Elysee. Mme Pécresse was to be the guest of TF1’s “8 pm” on Thursday evening, before joining a thousand of his supporters and sympathizers in Nogent-sur-Marne. An event originally planned to thank them for the regional campaign.
The focus on sovereign issues
“I can’t stand people talking instead of acting. We must break with ten years of bad choices, half measures, indecision, and ultimately the collapse of our country ”, she declares in Le Figaro, before recalling his intention to carry out a Tour de France dedicated to “Enrich” son ” project “. A first trip is planned from Friday July 23, in the Drôme, with the themes ” bureaucracy “ and the “Rurality”.
In her interview, the candidate also gives pride of place to sovereign issues, deeming it necessary to “Stop current immigration”. She proposes that “Asylum requests must be submitted in our embassies or at the border and to generalize the accelerated asylum procedure that exists for example at Roissy”. It also makes proposals for education and, more superficially, for ecology. “Let us make ecology not a punishment, nor a source of blockage, but a weapon for growth and employment. When countries do not respect our ecological standards, tax their products at the border, let us play the European preference ”, she explains, emphasizing the economic aspect.
On the question of the designation of the candidate of the right, Valérie Pécresse indicates not to have “Fear of the primary”. “We have a duty of unity and to play collectively, because we need a single candidate from the alliance of the right and the center for the alternation”, she says.
