Henry Cavill sent a harsh message about the future of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in 2017 and it seemed he was wrong about the franchise, but time proved him right.
The on-screen DC universe began with The Man of Steel in 2013 with Zack Snyder in charge, which was a box office success but received mixed reviews.
The study had enough budget to continue the story with Batman v Superman in 2016; however, the reception of the tape made it seem like the DC universe was destined to fail.
Despite continuing to triumph at the box office, the battle between DC’s most popular superheroes and the outcome of Martha left a terrible taste in the mouths of fans.
One year after Batman v Superman, DC continued to expand the universe with Suicide Squad by David Ayer, another failure for the franchise that even made the previous film look like a success.
At the time, Henry Cavill was aware that DC comic book adaptations were not what the world expected to see on screen, especially with the Marvel Cinematic Universe consolidated and triumphing with audiences and critics.
Nonetheless, the actor stated in an interview that even if Marvel didn’t exist, DC wanted to establish a different style of telling superhero stories that was clearly not working.
«[El DCEU] It hasn’t given the world that feeling that superheroes should give the viewer. I feel like now the right mistakes have been made and they have not been pleased, we can start to tell the stories the way they need to be told, ”said Henry Cavill in an interview with The Rake, via ScreenRant.
Unfortunately for the British actor, months after the statement it was released Justice League, whose production was fraught with problems with the departure of Snyder and the arrival of Joss Whedon to directing.
At the time, it seemed that DC hadn’t learned from mistakes, as Henry Cavill hoped, but time proved the actor right.
Despite the poor reception of Justice League, the studio went ahead with individual productions of Wonder Woman and Aquaman, which were styled differently than what DC had shown thus far, but, due to the franchise’s background, they weren’t convincing.
After years of stumbling blocks in productions, the DCEU appears to be getting a second chance among fans with the premiere of The Suicide Squad by James Gunn.
The new DC movie doesn’t fix past mistakes, but the director didn’t ignore them to tell a different superhero story that would please audiences without sacrificing DC flair.
The Suicide Squad it picked up previous elements of the DC universe, like Margot Robbie, but chose its own course to become a blockbuster movie.
Warner Bros. has plans to move forward with the universe with The Flash, Aquaman 2, Black Adam and Shazam 2, so there is no news about the return of Henry Cavill to the franchise and the actor has not spoken about it either.
However, Cavill may be glad that time proved him right, and while he is no longer in the superhero world, DC could now make movies that please the audience.
For an afternoon at home nothing like a good action movie and Danger on the mountain it is an excellent option. Click on the image to see it for free at VIX cinema and tv.
