Serge Ruffieux is launching his first own brand, dedicated to accessories. The ex-artistic director of Carven embarks on the adventure with journalist Emilie Faure, who has left Le Figaro last February. She will take care of the management of the new business and communication.
“I am happy to announce today the launch of 13 09 SR, an accessories brand. My first own brand, my date of birth and my initials as a number. I had been thinking about it for a long time. that we are living has transformed this desire into a necessity. Now is the right time “, announces the Italian-Swiss designer in a press release.
During the three seasons spent in the direction of the style of Carven, the man stood out especially for the inventiveness injected in the accessories, in particular the shoes. As he explains, “instinctively, I always start by imagining the shoes and the glasses. Accessories determine the attitude, they are the reflection of the personality”. And it is with these two product categories that he will begin, presenting his first collection in Paris in October, during the next Fashion Week.
“13 09 SR is a long-term project, I have the determination to offer strong, fun and responsible fashion because it is designed in recycled or ecological materials. Hybrid shoes and jeweled sunglasses, made in Italy, to begin with “, adds Serge Ruffieux, who has been piloting a Shanghai-based ready-to-wear and accessories brand since 2019 as creative director.
At 46, the stylist has great experience in the luxury sector. Passionate about fashion very early on, graduated from the Haute Ecole d’Art et de Design (HEAD) in Geneva, he started at Moschino in Milan, before joining Sonia Rykiel in Paris. After a stint with Cacharel and Gérard Darel, he took over as head of the Dior ready-to-wear studio, under the successive management of John Galliano and Raf Simons.
When the latter left in October 2015, Serge Ruffieux, who officiated at the time as head designer for the haute couture and women’s ready-to-wear collections, is projected on the front of the stage with her colleague and compatriot Lucie Meier, acting as interim within the Parisian luxury house before the arrival of Maria Grazia Chiuri in July 2016 at the head of Christian Dior women’s collections.
Six months later, in February 2017, he was appointed to the creative direction of Carven. Position he held until the acquisition of the brand by the Chinese group Icicle in October 2018. For her part, Émilie Faure graduated from the French Fashion Institute in Management and worked as a journalist in the fashion industry for twenty years.
