Last act of the Toyota flagship GR Yaris Rally cup staged in the blazoned setting of the WRC World Championship on the occasion of the Forum8 Aci Rally in Monza 2021. On Saturday 20 November, over six special stages for a total of 108 kilometers, the best time is for Thomas Paperini, who climbs on the top step of the podium in the Temple of Speed. The success in the trophy, on the other hand, goes to Alessandro Ciardi: the Tuscan driver, leader of the classification since the first act in Rome, is the first ever winner of the championship signed by Toyota Gazoo Racing Italy.

TOYOTA GR YARIS RALLY CUP: THE ROUND OF MONZA

The script of the Monza Rally, the last appointment of the Toyota GR Yaris Rally Cup mono-make – after the events in Rome, 1000 Miglia, Due Valli, Modena -, reserved adrenaline and twists for the 12 entered crews. To characterize the Lombard event the six special stages drawn in the mountains of Bergamo, with the two passages on the hamlets “San Fermo” (14.8 km) and “Selvino” (24.93 km), and the sports facility in Brianza inaugurated in 1922, seat of the “Sottozero” hamlet (14.39 km). Despite Alessandro Ciardi’s exit from the road after three tests during the Lombard event, the Tuscan driver himself was able to confirm his first position in the overall standings by virtue of the first stage place of Paperini, thus celebrating the title on the Monza podium. They close the season with second place overall in the single-brand Gianesini and Fay, fighting to the last, winners at 1000 Miglia and Due Valli (Gianesini also won the Over 50 cup). The Monza Rally also confirmed Angelo Pucci Grossi’s leadership in the Under 23 ranking: the son of art (his father, one of the most appreciated dirt rally specialists on the Italian scene, died prematurely in 2016) wins the title reserved for young people.

As soon as the engines at the Monza Rally died, the organizers of the Toyota GR Yaris Rally Cup trophy, outlining the balance of the first season (“The car has improved considerably with the updates introduced several times” said Tobia Cavallini, Toyota Gazoo team principal Racing Italy), have outlined the near future of the championship. “In light of the success of this first experience – said Mariano Autuori, marketing director of Toyota Italia – in 2022 the goal will be to increase the number of stages of our championship, and to introduce some ground tests”.

GAZZETTA MOTORI AWARD

Concluded the first season of the single-make that has as protagonist the racing Toyota GR Yaris, entered in the national class R1T 4×4 reserved for four-wheel drive cars (the Japanese compact is equipped with the 1.6-liter turbo engine that delivers 281 Hp in race configuration, and has the Toyota GR-Four system), the verdict of the Gazzetta Motori Award also arrives. The special recognition reserved for the crew that won the highest number of special stages crowns Federico Romagnoli (10 PS): the young Novarese will receive the dedicated trophy on the occasion of an event organized in the editorial staff of The Gazzetta dello Sport, in the presence of the director of the newspaper Stefano Barigelli.
