The Conjuring is a 2013 American supernatural horror film directed by James Wan. The film is based on a true story as told to the Warrens in 1977 by a family terrorized by dark spirits living in their farmhouse. 

In fact, it was one of the most documented hauntings ever recorded.

The movie is based on the real-life paranormal investigators’ Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were called to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. 

The film stars Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor and Shanley Caswell. It was released in the United States on July 19, 2013, and has grossed over $319 million worldwide.

Annabelle (2014)

Annabelle is a prequel to 2013’s The Conjuring and the second installment in The Conjuring series. Annabelle tells the story of a doll named Annabelle (possessed by the spirit of an angry young girl) that is given to a family as a gift.

The plot follows a dollmaker and his wife who give their daughter Annabelle a porcelain doll for her seventh birthday, only to have it start displaying malevolent behavior years later.

The Conjuring 2 (2016)

The Conjuring 2 was released in 2016. The movie is set in 1977 and tells the story of a family that has moved into an old house that faces an evil entity inside their home.

They experience various paranormal activities, but they don’t know what to do. The paranormal activity escalates when they meet the previous owner of the house. 

Annabelle: Creation (2017)

Annabelle: Creation is a 2017 American supernatural horror film directed by David F. Sandberg and written by Gary Dauberman. It is a prequel to the 2014 film Annabelle.

The film tells the story of Annabelle (Wilson), a young girl who becomes possessed by an evil spirit after her mother dies in childbirth.

The story follows a dollmaker and his wife who, 20 years after the tragic death of their little girl, welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home.

They soon become the target of the doll maker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.

The Nun (2018)

The Nun is a 2018 American gothic horror film directed by Corin Hardy and written by Gary Dauberman.  A spin-off of 2016’s The Conjuring 2 follows a Roman Catholic priest and a Catholic novitiate as they unleash a scary and wrongful secret.

The story is set in 1952 Romania where a young nun at a cloistered abbey takes her own life and leaves a threatening situation for the fellow nuns to cope with the traumatic incident. 

The Curse of La Llorona (2019)

‘The Curse of La Llorona’ directed by Michael Chaves and written by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis follows a social worker called Linda Cardellini who lives in Los Angeles with her two children who become the prey of the wandering ghost La Llorona (the weeping woman), a skeptical woman who killed her own children. 

Linda Cardellini’s children get targeted by the demonic spirit of the weeping woman who wants to steal them away forever.

Annabelle Comes Home (2019)

Annabelle comes home is directed by David F. Sandberg and written by Gary Dauberman. The movie starts and centers around Warrens.

Realizing how much Annabelle was capable of doing, the demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren decided to put her up in the locked artifact room in their house. They managed to keep her safe behind sacred glass by enlisting a priest’s holy blessing.

Until the evil spirits in the room set their next prey- the Warrens’ ten-year-old daughter, Judy, and her friends.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do it (2021)

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is based on the true story of the Perron family and their encounter with the supernatural. The story follows a family that moves into an old farmhouse in Rhode Island in 1971.

The film starts with Andrea and her family moving into their new home after her husband gets a promotion at work.

The Perrons quickly learn that they are not alone in the house, as they are terrorized by spirits who have been unleashed by a powerful demon with the help of some research and Ed and Lorraine Warren, they soon discover the secret of the haunted house.
