Ed Sheeran returns to the scene, having lost the throne of the most listened to artist at the hands of Dua Lipa

Last Wednesday, June 9, the news was released that Dua Lipa was the artist most listened to on radio and television in the United Kingdom during 2020 thanks to the success of her second album Future Nostalgia, with which he managed to unseat Ed Sheeran, who had maintained his reign since 2017.

And while it would be absurd to think that the British singer born 30 years ago in Halifax has reacted so quickly in a plan to regain his scepter with the first preview of what will be his next album, the announcement, just two days after the release of his first single in four years fits that idea like a glove.

According to the artist’s post on his Instagram account, Bad Habits, the first preview of his next albumIt will be released on June 25.

Sheeran accompanied the announcement with photographs of different places in London, the city that saw him grow as an artist, such as the Tate Modern, where the name of the new single, the release date and also its cover could be seen projected.

In it you can see a Sheeran made up and dressed in a pink suit with a tie, in what looks like the inside of an industrial building and stepping on a wet floor.

The musician had already dropped last Wednesday on his Instagram account that his musical lethargy was about to end, with a photograph in which he appeared with his hands on his head and with the following caption: “The moment you realize that your first solo single in four years comes out in a few weeks”.

Bad Habits it will be the first draft of Sheeran’s upcoming musical work, details of which are unknown. At the moment, his albums +, X Y ÷, have followed a mathematical formula, which rumored to be able to continue with “Minus (-)” or “Equal (=)”.

A theory that Sheeran himself potentiated last month, when it was announced that would sponsor his childhood team jersey, the Ipswich Town, for the next season, whose design shows the mathematical symbols in full with the word “tour” (tour).

Since he posted Divide in 2017, and later his collaborations album No.6, The Briton has stayed away from the first line of music to dedicate himself to his new facet as the father of a girl, and only stuck his head out last Christmas to launch by surprise Afterglow.

In the precise moment

Never more appropriate the return of the singer to the scene, taking into account the claw that Dua Lipa gave her place at the top one of the most listened to artists in the United Kingdom, which he managed to keep for four years, almost coinciding with the time he has not released new material.

This was confirmed on Wednesday by the UK Music Licensing Company (PPL), which explained that the fact that the singer’s album was released just four days after the start of the first national lockdown in March 2020 caused that was “the soundtrack of many people during the pandemic.”

“I am incredibly proud to be the most listened to artist on radio, television and across the UK. I wanted her to Future Nostalgia bring some happiness in such a difficult time “, admitted the British composer of Albanian-Kosovar origin in a statement from the company.

Dua Lipa and Future Nostalgia They also reaped great success at the last BRIT gala, obtaining the award for Best British Album and Best British Female Artist.
