Starting a new musical decade

Paul McCartney’s third solo album is a real gem, a treat from the first to the last note. The album continues a tradition that began more than 50 years ago with his first post-Beatles performance, simply titled McCartney and continued with the strange but endearing McCartney II, released in 1980. The English musician had not planned to release any new material, but During the isolation produced by the pandemic, he found himself completing some musical sketches that he had saved and creating new ones. Before long, an eclectic collection of spontaneously created songs would become McCartney III.

Evolving group

For the release of her third album, Parallel Lines, Blondie turned to British pop producer Mike Chapman. But it was not only the impeccable production that made the album a New Wave masterpiece, it was the band’s successful compositions, including Heart of Glass, One Way or Another and Hanging on the Telephone, which caused the sales phenomenon it became. In this 1978 recording, the band abandons any pretense of punk legitimacy and emerged as a great pop group. At its best, Blondie represented a perfect blend of girl group pop from the early ’60s and post-punk sensibilities from the late’ 70s.

Drawn from John Lee Hooker’s first series of sessions for Vee-Jay Records in 1959, I’m John Lee Hooker features a series of songs he had already recorded for other labels. In fact, it was always said that Hooker was famous for recording the same material for multiple labels. Despite this, this is an exceptional album, containing many of the well-known songs with which he had established his enormous reputation. As such, it would become an influential album that would decisively help the British blues boom of the 1960s. A great introduction to the work of the bluesist and at the same time an essential collection for his fans.
