The singer Jon Secada and the jazz pianist Gonzalo rubalcaba they have united their respective talents in an album entitled ‘Solos’. The artists have been inspired for their collaboration in a memorable album recorded by Tony Bennet and Bill Evans in 1975, although traveling to the terrain of the best Cuban filin.
The recording, released this Friday on digital platforms, shows Jon’s personality and vocal delivery and Gonzalo’s magical instinct to deliver exciting solos. Both artists rely on a repertoire made up of songs of the highest range of inspiration and sensitivity in the history of the Cuban bolero. Titles from the first decades of the 20th century appear, such as ‘The afternoon’, by Sindo Garay, ‘Longina’, by Manuel Corona, and ‘Tell me that you love me’, by María Teresa Vera, together with the most universal pieces of the filming, current of the bolero born in the late forties.
Thus, ‘Rosa mustia’, by Ángel Díaz; ‘With you in the distance’ and ‘Delirio’, by Portillo de la Luz; ‘I was missing you’ and ‘I’m so happy’, by José Antonio Méndez; ‘See you tomorrow, my life’, by Rosendo Ruiz Quevedo, or ‘You got used to me’, by Frank Domínguez.
In June 1975, Tony Bennet collaborated with the great jazz pianist Bill Evans on what became one of the most unique recordings of the American songbook. Released by Fantasy Records, that album titled simply ‘Tony Bennet / Bill Evans’ was a fusion of the sensibilities of two huge musicians.
Inspired by that album, the Latin pop star Jon Secada and the celebrated jazz pianist Gonzalo rubalcaba they embarked on the recording of their Latin version, focusing on the Cuban musical movement called filin that catapulted indelible standards to the world.
The album, edited by Assume Music Y Sony Music, has had as a producer Julio Bagué, who directed Jon’s latest album, ‘To Beny Moré With Love,’ which won the Latin Grammy for Best Traditional Tropical Album.
