American country singer Dolly Parton revealed that she twice rejected the Presidential Medal of Freedom during the Donald Trump administration.
The artist said she did not accept the awards because her husband was ill and did not want to travel due to the pandemic.
Parton is not sure if she would accept the medal from President Joe Biden, as it could be seen as a political gesture.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian recognition in the United States and it has numerous categories.
Previous recipients include Bruce Springsteen, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and Bill and Melinda Gates, among others.

“They offered me the freedom award from the Trump government. I could not accept it because my husband was sick. Then they consulted me again about it and I would not have traveled because of the covid,” he said.
The singer said that she had already been contacted by the Biden government and assured: “Now I feel that if I accept it, it will be to do politics, so I’m not so sure.”
