Sporting-Mar del Plata Club: a classic with a title at stake

The classics are different games where the previous statistics are of little use. Sporting and Mar del Plata Club know that this Sunday, on an unusual day and time (4.30 pm), they will animate the final of the twelfth edition of Regional Pampeano A rugby. The winner will have a triple prize: to prevail in the classic -with all that that means-, to go around the Olympics and lead the history of the tournament (both have five titles each, the rest corresponds to Sociedad Sportiva, the last champion).

The two will arrive with important casualties to the decisive match. The Marists, for example, will not be able to count on the starter Felipe Charles – one of their figures throughout the season – due to the accumulation of yellows, nor on the second row Ignacio Castañón, sent off in the semifinal against Los Cardos. A red card will also prevent him from being the eighth Juan Ignacio Montone, one of the undisputed in the pack of the Santa Celina cast.

The coaches Eduardo Zapiola and Juan Varela made the decision to move on to Gastón García Argibay as the starter and the entry of Joaquín Pérez Maraviglia (who returns to start after almost two seasons) to accompany Pedro Area in the center of the court. Among the forwards, as expected, Ignacio Parietti will replace Castañón in the second row.
In addition to the return of Pérez Maraviglia, other good news for Sporting is that wing Julián Soberón, one of the tournament’s trymen, is available again.

On the side of Mar del Plata Club, coaches Rafael Urrutia and Guido Román confirmed the entry of Emiliano Villa in the second row, with Javier Rojas moving to the third. The eighth, meanwhile, will be Felipe Lizarraga.

The absence of Montone and the entry of Villa from the beginning opened a place among the substitutes for Ignacio Baclini (ex Tucumán Lawn Tennis). Another who will wait on the bench is hooker Sebastián Hernando.

The fifth of the year

The final of Regional Pampeano A will mark the fifth meeting between the two so far this season. The first three, in the Official Tournament of the Mar del Plata Rugby Union, including the final, were won by Mar del Plata Club. The last, within the framework of the current contest, was held by Sporting.

Like any decisive game, the two teams will seek to commit the least amount of errors and infractions and, of course, try to win the forwards duel. However, both sides are waiting for an attractive meeting.

“We started the year well and we were able to maintain it. Sporting started from lowest to highest and the truth is that the season is ending playing very good rugby. That is why I think that the final does not have a favorite, we are both on equal footing. The one who makes the best use of the moments is the one who will end up winning, ”said Urrutia in the previous match.

“What I do hope,” continued the head coach of Mar del Plata Club, “is that such a test match does not come out and that the two teams are encouraged to play, more than anything because there will be a significant number of people and it would be good if they can enjoy it. ”.
“I hope that a good game comes out, like the last classics, and that the one who does things best in the final wins. Let the thirty who play play have fun and let it be a party, ”said Zapiola, one of Sporting’s coaches.
