Innsbruck took the lead in their own hall in the twelfth minute through ex-Salzburg player Nico Feldner and never gave up this lead. After Ben Betker (35./SH) made it 2-0, Peter Schneider (36./PP) managed to reply immediately, but that was all there was to it that evening. Daniel Leavens (47th) made the decision in the final section.
The spusu Vienna Capitals suffered a 4-5 penalty shootout defeat at Olimpija Ljubljana and are now seventh. The Caps forced extra time in Slovenia with a 3-1 win in the third period, thanks in part to a third goal of the game from the outstanding Matthew Prapavessis. Since no goals were scored in overtime, the penalty shoot-out had to bring the decision, in which Daniel Murphy scored the winning goal for the hosts.
Strong finish from Linz in the basement duel
In the basement duel, bottom player Steinbach Black Wings Linz won 3-2 after a penalty shoot-out at the Dornbirn Bulldogs. The Upper Austrians put in a strong finish, two late goals forced extra time and, thanks to Colin Smith, there was actually a happy ending in the penalty shootout. After a 2:3 defeat after extra time against the Pustertal Wölfe, HCB Südtirol fell back to third place behind KAC.
