The numbers of the URC: Treviso, what a surprise! Battleship Leinster

Treviso present in 7 categories out of 12, the other Italian franchise of Zebre Parma is present in 2 categories of figures, purely defensive

The United Rugby Championship – Urc, taking advantage of the break for the autumn test matches, gives the numbers. With a positive surprise for Benetton Treviso. After five days the Italian team is the best, behind the unrivaled Irish battleship Leinster, for overall presence in the Top 5 of the 12 categories in which the game figures are collected. This despite the fact that the Treviso players with 2 wins and 3 defeats are in the middle of the table (8th place with 12 points) compared to 24 points and the primacy of the “Blue Army”. None of the other six formations up front (Ulster, Munster, Edinburgh, Osprey, Glasgow, Cardiff) did any better in this special analysis. A sign that the quality of the matches played by the team coached by Marco Bortolami was good, although it did not always translate into points and successes.

SEVEN CATEGORIES

The 7 out of 12 categories in which Treviso is present in the Top 5 saddles are the following. 1) Meters run with the ball: 3rd place with 634, Leinster 1st with 707. 2) Number of defenders beaten in attacking actions: 5th with 94, Leinster 1st with 132. 3) Number of passes performed: 5th with 680, Leinster 1st with 841; 4) Number of kicks in the game: 5th with 125, Ospreys 1st with 153; 5) Meters gained with advances: 4th with 1882, Leinster 1st with 2728; 6) Touche won: 2nd with 71, Ulster 1st with 78; 7) Ruck won in the ground game: 2nd with 491, Leinster 1st with 505.

THE COMPARISON

Leinster are present in 9 of these categories, but one negative: bad tackles. So in reality they are one more than Benetton. Ditto the other Irish province of Ulster at an altitude of 7 including wrong tackles, therefore at -1 compared to Treviso which is not present in the 2 negative categories of wrong tackles and turnover granted (loss of the ball on own possession). Benetton is not even present in the category of the number of tackles performed, unlike the fifth Zebre with 605. Compared to their opponents, they therefore had more ball possession, attacked rather than defended in the five races played. At 6 categories we have Edinburgh, 4 Glasgow (both with the wrong tackles), 4 the Dragons, 3 Cardiff, Connacht, Scarlets and Ospreys (with the turnovers allowed), 2 Munster. The four new South African franchises are only present in the negative figure categories, reflecting the non-competitive impact so far in the URC.

ZEBRE

The other Italian franchise of Zebre Parma is present in 2 categories of figures, purely defensive. In addition to 5th place in tackles (Scarlets 1st with 709), 3rd in turn over won with 38 (Edinburgh 1st with 43). In the case of the Zebras, the last place with a point, also behind the South African franchises, unfortunately faithfully captures the performance of the federal team led by Michael Bradley.
