The Suicide Squad BTS Video Captures a Dramatic Harley Quinn Stunt

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn shares a behind-the-scenes clip of filming a giant leap from Harley Quinn during the DCEU film’s final act.

James Gunn shared another behind-the-scenes moment from The Suicide Squad showing how the film’s cast and crew filmed one particularly acrobatic stunt from Harley Quinn.

Gunn, who wrote and directed The Suicide Squad, has been sharing a plethora of clips and photos on social media detailing the trials, tribulations and joys of putting together the action-packed supervillain ensemble film. In anticipation of the movie’s upcoming home release, Gunn’s most recent Instagram post included a behind-the-scenes clip of the team capturing a grand leap from Harley Quinn for the third act of the film.

For the stunt, Harley soars through the air, flying past Polka-Dot Man before slamming into the side of a building. She catches herself thanks to her trusty javelin, then pulls herself to safety. To capture the leap from the best angle, director of photography Henry Braham followed after Harley with a camera, zipping along on his own set of suspension cables. Gunn didn’t clarify if it was Margot Robbie performing the stunt or her double, Ingrid Kleinig, but based on the dangerous nature of the jump, it was likely the latter.

The stunt appears in the final cut of The Suicide Squad in the movie’s third act when Harley, Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian) and the rest of the remaining team attempt to survive the destruction of the research building known as Jotunheim. The chaotic sequence, which concludes with a faceoff between the team of DCEU supervillains and the extraterrestrial Starro, featured a multitude of difficult-to-film aerial stunts. It also included The Suicide Squad’s most challenging scene to shoot, according to Gunn.

As he shared the clip, Gunn took the opportunity to promote The Suicide Squad‘s upcoming home release. The film will arrive on VOD next week, with Blu-Ray and DVD releases coming on Oct. 25. Gunn teased the Blu-Ray bonus content will include “tons” of special features, deleted scenes, bloopers and director’s commentary. One deleted scene, the director confirmed, will show how The Thinker (Peter Capaldi) received a suspicious ear wound that went unexplained in the final version of the film.

Ever since the film’s release to theaters and HBO Max earlier this summer, Gunn has posted a variety of behind-the-scenes info on both the making of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, a streaming series starring John Cena’s Squad character which will serve as a spiritual successor to the film. Prior to posting Harley’s stunt clip, Gunn shared the makeup tests for both Polka-Dot Man and Calendar Man (Sean Gunn). He also gave the inside scoop on shooting a creative fight scene reflected in Peacemaker’s helmet.
