Earlier this year, it was announced that the film would be released in cinemas first, with a 45-day exclusive window. Meaning that the film, unlike “Black Widow”, won’t be released on Disney+ Premier Access. When Is “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings” Released On Disney+?
Before the pandemic, films would have a much longer time exclusively in cinemas, but for the release of “Free Guy” and “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings”, had Disney sign a 45-day exclusivity window.
This means, after 45 days, on Monday 18th October, “Shang-Chi” can be released on other platforms, including for digital purchase, rental and on Disney+.
However, Disney has officially confirmed that the film will be available on Disney+ on Friday 12th November, which is Disney+ Day, which is a global celebration that will come to life across all dimensions of the Company. Subscribers to Disney+ will be treated to new content releases across the service’s iconic brands, Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Star in Canada, along with a special presentation on Disney+ for fans with sneak peeks into what’s to come.
Disney’s CEO Bob Chapek has called the film’s release an experiment because they are going to be testing the release on Disney+ much faster than normal. This means they’ll be able to collect data about how many people watch it, how many people signed up to Disney+ for the film and much more.
