As the war in Ukraine continues to push many of its citizens out of the country amid Vladimir Putin’s invasion, protests continue in Russia.

Thousands of people took to the streets to speak out against the war, including the daughters of some of Russia’s most elite Kremlin-linked figures.

One of Russia’s most vocal opponents of the invasion on social media has been Sofia Abramovich, who publicly called out Putin in her instagram story with a message that read: “Putin wants a war with Ukraine. The biggest and most successful Kremlin propaganda lie is that most Russians are with Putin.

The equestrian is the daughter of Roman Abramovich, 55, owner of Chelsea Premier League Football Club, who has a reported net worth of $12 billion. The club owner said he would sell the team after mounting pressure from the invasion and his links to the Kremlin.

Abramovich also announced that he had instructed the popular football club to set up a foundation which will use all net proceeds from the sale of Chelsea to “benefit all victims of the war in Ukraine”. Abramovich has not yet been sanctioned for his relationship with Russia.

The post was later deleted.

Also hating the invasion is Maria Yumasheva, the 19-year-old daughter of Russian property developer Valentin Yumashev and his wife Tatyana Borisovna. Borisovna is the daughter of former Russian President Boris Yeltsin.

On February 24, Yumasheva made her feelings known when she shared a photo of a Ukrainian flag with instagram, captioning the post with a simple broken heart emoji.

Although comments on the post are disabled, the image garnered over 4,000 likes from its more than 12,000 followers.

Russia launched a full-scale attack on Ukraine on February 24, with Vladimir Putin calling it a “special military operation”.
