A woman’s body found in a house in Leeds may have been missing for weeks, neighbors said today.
Kirstie Ellis, believed to be in her early 30s, was found inside the Stanningley property yesterday afternoon after concerns were raised for her safety.
Two people – a man and a woman, both aged 35 – were later arrested on suspicion of murder and are being questioned by cops.
Shocked neighbors today told how Kirstie, who lived alone in the small red brick house in the quiet cul-de-sac Stanhall Mews, could have been there for almost a month after her death.
One told The Sun: ‘We believe she died in this house maybe four weeks ago because two weeks ago the police took to the streets to ask residents if we had seen Kirstie recently.
“The policeman said the mail was stacked behind his mailbox.
“I guess they didn’t have access to the house at the time. »
They added: “The police were also showing us a photo of a man, who they said they were more interested in finding.
“I didn’t recognize the man and I don’t know who he is. »
Another resident, who did not wish to be named, described Kirstie as “a bit of a hoarder”.
“She was a little weird and the house was messy and full of junk,” they said.
“She was a bit hoarder. Last I saw, she had mirrors all over the place.
“Kirstie rarely left the house, and I’m sure she didn’t work and didn’t have kids. »
A third neighbour, who has not been named, told Leeds Live: “Obviously everyone is very shocked at what has happened to this poor woman.
“We don’t know much about what happened yet and it’s normally such a quiet little street.
“I’ve only spoken to her once or twice about the bin collections and I don’t think anyone here knows her at all to be honest, not even her name.
“I know it’s a cliché but she kept it to herself.
“Police were at the same house a week or two ago regarding a missing person investigation and I don’t know if what happened is related to that in any way. »
Kirstie’s body was discovered around 3 p.m. yesterday.
Police and forensic teams continue to work on the property and are patrolling the area.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Inquiries team on 101 quoting reference 1025 of March 25.
