Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took to Twitter and thanked the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for their solidarity.

Oxenberg noted that while it’s unusual for the Royal Family to speak out on politics, she’s not surprised by their statements.

Russia acknowledged for the first time since the start of the invasion on February 24 that nearly 500 Russian soldiers were killed in the fighting and around 1,600 were injured. Ukraine has not released a similar figure for its armed forces.

The UN human rights office said at least 227 civilians have been killed and 525 injured in Ukraine since the invasion began. Ukraine’s state emergency service said more than 2,000 civilians had died.

Meanwhile, the UN refugee agency said one million people had fled Ukraine. Furthermore, the United Nations General Assembly condemned the invasion and called on Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine.

The conflict continues to evolve and has drawn widespread condemnation around the world, as well as increasingly severe economic sanctions against Russia.
